NAVY BEAT HAMBANTOTA SHARKS

Navy Sports Club beat Hambantota Sharks Sports Club 43-03 in a Dialog A Division first round league rugby match worked off at the Navy Rugby Grounds in Welisara on 17th January 2014. They scored four goals and three tries against the minnows, Hambantota Sharks, who had to walk away with only two penalties collected in the first half.

Fijian Alisi Tupuailali drew first blood for the Navy with a try. Number Eight Bilal Hassan augmented the account with another to read the score 10-06 at the breather.

Navy dominated the second half. Centre Fijian Jone Avakio snatched a try signaling much more on the line and it was converted by Fly Half Chanaka Chandimal. Avakio went on to add another try and this time it was converted by Hassan giving the Navy a comfortable four-fold lead 24-06. Fijian Joeli Lutumailagi made a superb touch-down while Hassan adding the extra points. Avakio put another try through and made the conversion himself much to the disappointment of the Southerners whose defences were in total disarray by that time. Navy's Prop Forward Eranga Swarnatilleke drew the curtains with a try, making the Navy the top most contender for the league rugby title.
