NAVY BEAT HAMBANTOTA SHARKS

 
Navy Sports Club beat Hambantota Sharks Sports Club 43-03 in a Dialog A Division first round league rugby match worked off at the Navy Rugby Grounds in Welisara on 17th January 2014. They scored four goals and three tries against the minnows, Hambantota Sharks, who had to walk away with only two penalties collected in the first half.
 
Fijian Alisi Tupuailali drew first blood for the Navy with a try. Number Eight Bilal Hassan augmented the account with another to read the score 10-06 at the breather.
 
Navy dominated the second half. Centre Fijian Jone Avakio snatched a try signaling much more on the line and it was converted by Fly Half Chanaka Chandimal. Avakio went on to add another try and this time it was converted by Hassan giving the Navy a comfortable four-fold lead 24-06. Fijian Joeli Lutumailagi made a superb touch-down while Hassan adding the extra points. Avakio put another try through and made the conversion himself much to the disappointment of the Southerners whose defences were in total disarray by that time. Navy's Prop Forward Eranga Swarnatilleke drew the curtains with a try, making the Navy the top most contender for the league rugby title.

NAVY BEAT HAVELOCKS

Navy Sports Club beat Havelocks Sports Club 21-17 in a Dialog A Division first round league rugby match worked off at the Navy Rugby Grounds in Welisara on 11th January 2014. They scored one goal, one try and three penalties in the closely-fought encounter. Defending champions, Havelocks were forced to yield the victory for the Pink Shirts managed only one goal and two tries when the final whistle blew.
 
Winger Dinusha Fernando opened the account for the Navy with a try. It was followed by a penalty shot up by Nuwan Hettiarachchi. However, the Park Club held the lead of the first half 10-8 breaking the sailors' defences with two tries.
 
Refreshed Nuwan Hettiarachchi bolstered the Navy account with a penalty and went on to convert Number Eight Mateaki Kafatolu's try snatching the extra points. Ilai Tinani put the finishing touches with a penalty helping the sailors to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

NAVY BEAT ARMY

 
Navy Sports Club beat Army Sports Club 31-13 in a Dialog A Division first round league rugby match worked off at the Navy Rugby Grounds in Welisara on 03rd January 2014. They scored four tries converting all along with a penalty to supplement. Desperate Army tried to put up defences against the sailors' onslaught but scratched only two penalties followed by a try which was convereted towards the tail end of the game in consolation.

Winger Dushan Fernando drew first blood for the Navy with a penalty, which was converted by Nuwan Hettiarachchi making no mistake. Nuwan added another penalty and convereted the one snatched by Number Eight Fijian Kafatolu Mateaki. This gave the Navy a comfortable lead of 17-6 at half time.

Refreshed Dinusha produced another try and it was converted by Fly Half Chanaka Chandimal. Bilal Hassan stole the Navy's final try  and Chanaka closed up the proceedings with the conversion.
